Power of Imagination

In the story Zadie Ma and the dog who chased the moon so far, Zadie really really wants to own a pet dog! Zadie’s mother however has refused to bring any pets home. But Zadie’s mother does not know that Zadie has a superpower. Zadie is a talented story teller and brilliant at drawing. Zadie has started writing the story about a dog named Jupiter and Zadie has used beautiful illustrations to tell her story.

This gave us a perfect opportunity for a fun and interactive activity. We asked the kids that they all make a drawing of an imaginative animal that they would like to pet. What would they draw? Would the animal have wings or multiple legs? What color would they draw this animal? What would they name their pet? Seeing the kids work on their imagination was very rewarding! So what are the benefits of imagination? Why should we encourage kids to imagine and engage them in imaginative plays?

Here are five benefits of encouraging kids to use imagination:

  1. Imagination in kids nurtures creativity, the ability to create something real using imagination.

  2. Through imagination, kids can express themselves better and brush up on their social and communication skills.

  3. Imagination encourages kids to think outside the box, bringing diversity in their thoughts and develop problem solving skills.

  4. When kids imagine, they have complete control of the narrative, who they are and what happens, boosting confidence in them!

  5. Imagination can inspire young minds towards artistic development.
